My Story and Me: a storytelling intervention for young women and girls
Have your school, college, or organisation take part in a new trial intervention to support young women and girls and help drive mental health research.
What is My Story and Me?
One in three young women aged 17-19 experiences mental health difficulties.1
Universal public mental health interventions can help young women to seek help earlier and prevent mental health problems from developing.
My Story and Me is a new preventative mental health intervention for young women and girls. It aims to empower young people by hearing real mental health stories from people like them and having a safe space to record their own story.
We welcome gender diversity in this project and use the terms ‘girl’ and ‘young woman’ inclusively. If your students feel this topic is relevant to them and want to take part in this project, then we welcome their views. We will respect your students’ gender.
Get involved in the trial
Your school, college, or organisation can get involved in helping us test My Story and Me as part of our feasibility trial.
This includes recruiting 20-30 young people aged 14-18 who will use the digital platform and complete surveys about their experience.
You will also meet with the research team and provide feedback throughout the trial about what works well and what could be improved.
Who can apply
secondary schools
further education colleges
community youth organisations*
We are particularly interested in hearing from sites with diverse student populations in terms of ethnicity, neurodiversity, gender identity and sexuality.
*Please note that we are unable to include your site if the existing support is similar to My Story and Me, or if there has been a serious incident in the past 12 months that would make participation more difficult.
